UC Merced built its reputation on resource sustainability and as ecological caretakers. Our vast array of solar panels plays a large role in the university’s certification as a zero net energy campus. Thanks to the Valley’s abundant sunshine, we host the UC system’s research into solar technology. To the northwest are the university’s vernal pools – 6,500 acres of grassland and the home of numerous rare, threatened or endangered species. It’s a source for research, education and field trips.
